Wow! One of my students created these two beautiful works of art at home on her own time. She surprised me one day with the artwork and I was so happy to hang them in my classroom. Both pieces are created on canvas. The long vertical artwork reminds me of Henri Matisse's cut paper masterpieces. The second artwork is a great example of texture. I love sharing these with all of my students and I am honored that a student took the time to create something so beautiful for me. How inspiring!

Fifth graders started off the year creating a relief design using lots of different types of lines. First we drew out a line design on poster board. Next we glued yarn down to the line design to give our drawing a three dimensional look to it. After that, we covered the whole drawing with a piece of foil, pressed down the foil, and colored the indents with sharpie markers. Each students' creation turned out to be a beautiful work of art.
Second graders had lots of fun creating patterns with bright colored paper to create their own set of witches legs. We also used black marker and white oil pastels to add details to the skirt, shoes, and background.
We were inspired by fall when we created our mixed media scarecrows. First graders used a variety of materials for their artwork such as paint, crayons, cut paper, and oil pastels to make their scarecrows come to life.
Students used their knowledge of lines and shapes to create these cool self portraits. First a cartoon self portrait was drawn in black marker. Then students cut out their self portrait, glued it to a colored background, and lastly, added a line design radiating from their drawing. Each drawing definitely has its own special personality!
