The kindergarteners also created artwork using ice cream as their subject. After learning about famous American artist, Wayne Thiebaud, we cut paper into geometric and organic shapes to form our ice cream cones. When the glue was dry we created patterns in the background with crayons and around the frame with cut paper.

Students from all over the district presented their artwork at the annual K-12 Fine Arts Festival held at Ewell elementary this year. I was very proud to hand pick several amazing artists from Switzer to represent our school. It was great to see students and families supporting the arts on opening night and other times throughout the week. Here are some photos of Switzer students next to their creations.

The Kindergarten students learned how to draw with scissors when creating these whimsical cut paper penguins. We used our scissors to create a variety of shapes such as circles, semi-circles, and triangles which completed our penguins. We also used a black marker for details and a pattern on the scarf and a white oil pastel for a pattern of snowflakes around the frame.
The Kindergarteners created these clay star ornaments after talking about Texture. First we rolled out the clay and cut it into a star shape. Then we used buttons and popsicle sticks to create different textures on our clay. Once the clay had been fired, we were able to paint our stars in bright colors and use a glitter gloss to really make them shine.
Students in kindergarten created these beautiful mosaics by tearing paper in the colors of the rainbow. We started with a red cut circle and then glued down paper in color order around the red circle. The torn paper really gives the mosaics a fun texture.
