Students in second, fourth, and fifth grades helped me decorate the front hall for March is Reading Month. Our theme this year was "Ride the Reading Wave" and we created some great surf and sun themed artwork to go along with our theme. The second graders created these Tropical Sunset Silhouettes by first painting a bright, colorful sunset on the water. The next week we added our silhouette of a palm tree and glued our picture to a black frame to give it a finished look. The fourth and fifth graders created these surfboard paintings for the front hall. First we mixed paint to create the different tints we needed for the beach and sky. After painting the beach and sky, we used oil pastels to make interesting surfboard designs.
