The First Graders created these winter landscapes using a variety of art media such as paint, tissue paper, glue, paper, markers, and color sticks. Our goal was to create a winter landscape with shapes, lines, patterns, and cool colors.

The first graders created these fall leaf paintings simply using a black crayon and liquid watercolor paints. We placed real leaves under our papers and rubbed a black crayon on top to show the texture of the leaves. Then we painted our designs using a wet on wet watercolor technique which allowed the paints to blend together on their own. The last step was creating a pattern on our frame with cut paper. Our goals were to show texture, color, and pattern in our artwork.
The first graders created these Spiral Snail Paintings to show that they can create with lots of different types of lines. After discussing the many different types of lines and the directions they can go in, we drew out a snail using a spiral line. Then we added more lines to finish off the snail and the background such as zig zag, bumpy, or straight lines. Last we painted over our lines with black paint to make them really stand out. The second week we added the element of color to our painting to complete our lesson on lines. The first through sixth grade students have been creating sketchbooks to use throughout the school year in art class. In these sketchbooks, we will write and draw small things to help us remember what we are learning about such as art vocabulary words or information about various artists or types of art. At the end of the year, students will get to take home their sketchbooks and reflect on the year we had in art.

Mrs. W.About Me: This is my eighth year teaching art at Switzer Elementary. I see every K-6 student for art once a week. My goal during this time is to nurture students' creativity through exploring different art mediums and concepts. By exploring art, students will develop essential knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the future. Categories
