Students learned how to create an object from a bird's eye view through this snowman project. We used a wet on wet watercolor technique with cool colors for our background. Then we cut shapes out to create our snowman and added shading with chalk pastels. After that we added details to the face with markers and we also cut and pasted other details such as a scarf with a pattern and stick hands.

The Fourth Graders created these Fall Tree Reflections by the technique of mono printing. We only painted on the top half of our paper and pressed it onto the bottom half of our paper to create one unique print. Our goals were to show warm and cool colors in our artwork and to create a pattern around our frame.
The fourth graders learned about Printmaking by creating these Spooky Houses. Our main elements of art that we focused on were LINES and SHAPES. We had to create a stamp by drawing a house using shapes and lines onto a piece of styrofoam. After we cut out our stamp we created a background of a moon using oil pastels on a piece of purple construction paper. Then we were ready to print. The fourth graders had fun rolling ink onto a brayer and inking up their own stamp. They printed a proof first on white paper to check their stamp out and then a final print onto their spooky moon papers. An example of our stamps out of styrofoam and our background papers.
The first through sixth grade students have been creating sketchbooks to use throughout the school year in art class. In these sketchbooks, we will write and draw small things to help us remember what we are learning about such as art vocabulary words or information about various artists or types of art. At the end of the year, students will get to take home their sketchbooks and reflect on the year we had in art.

Mrs. W.About Me: This is my eighth year teaching art at Switzer Elementary. I see every K-6 student for art once a week. My goal during this time is to nurture students' creativity through exploring different art mediums and concepts. By exploring art, students will develop essential knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the future. Categories
