All of the fifth graders at Switzer Elementary were able to attend an amazing field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts last week. We mainly stayed in the Native American section of the museum to see first hand all of the wonderful creations that have been made by Native Americans in the past and present. It was so interesting to make a connection between the history that we learn about in our classrooms to the art we viewed in the museum. The first part of our trip was a guided tour led by a museum docent who filled us in on information about some of the artwork. They were very knowledgable and the students enjoyed listening to and interacting with the docents. The second half of the field trip was a self guided tour where students had to describe and analyze two Native American vessels of their choice. It was an awesome field trip and I hope the students get to visit the museum and explore more with their families outside of school.

Mrs. W.About Me: This is my eighth year teaching art at Switzer Elementary. I see every K-6 student for art once a week. My goal during this time is to nurture students' creativity through exploring different art mediums and concepts. By exploring art, students will develop essential knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the future. Categories
