Here are a few of our sidewalk chalk creations as we wrap up the school year. We had a great year in art and the students certainly impressed me with their artistic skills and creativity. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and has a chance to create art outside of school.

So many of this years sixth graders have shown creativity and skill in the art room. I am so thankful to see them grow throughout elementary school and I can't wait to see what they accomplish in their lives. Thanks to all of the students who allowed me to hang their art in the halls or save it for special art shows! After reading the book "Elmer the Elephant", the first graders created these elephants on parade paintings. Our goals were to mix our own gray paint and to show a pattern in our artwork. The second graders created these flower vases to show that they can create a still life painting using organic shapes similar to famous artist Henri Matisse. They used bright colors to paint in their shapes like a fauve painter. Our goal in creating these butterflies was to show symmetry through lines, shapes, and colors. The kindergarteners did a great job drawing and painting their butterflies to accomplish their goal. The sixth graders created pinch pot creatures to show the elements of form and texture. Each student made a simple pinch pot and then added clay details like eyes, arms, legs, hair, etc. after the pinch pots were bisque fired, the sixth graders used tempera paints to add color to their creatures. The goal of this project was for the fifth graders to create a stamp and then print it four times on one sheet to show radial symmetry. They created amazing backgrounds to print on using oil pastels. The first graders created these cool fish out of clay to show different textures. We used lots of different tools like popsicle sticks and stylus tools to make scales, stripes, and spots. After the fish were bisque fired in the kiln, we painted them and added a handle with beads. The fourth graders also studied famous artist Georgia O'Keefe and used organic shapes to draw out these flowers with a black oil pastel. Then they painted their flowers with analogous colors using tempera cakes. The flowers turned out big, bright, and beautiful!
The first graders created these flowers after learning about artist Georgia O'Keefe. They drew organic shapes and repeated those shapes to take up the whole space of their papers. The first graders then colored the flowers in a pattern. |
