The element of art that we focused on for this project was LINE and our goal for this project was to show movement in our artwork by creating a variety of lines. We were also able to show movement by the placement of our cut out star and by blending the bright colored oil pastels that mimicked each line.

The kindergartener's learned about warm & cool colors, sizes, and pointillism when they created these beautiful fall trees. For the first week, we talked about different sizes and warm & cool colors. Students traced a circle on their page for the leaves of the tree and then they drew a trunk and branches in 3 different sizes, Large, Medium, and Small. Their next step was to color and paint the background using the cool colors of blue green and purple. On week two, students learned about artist George Seurat and the style of pointillism. Then students used a q-tip to dot warm colors inside the circle on their tree to create a Fall Tree in pointillism style.
The fifth graders made these designs by using yarn on poster board to create raised lines. The second step was to cover the whole page with foil and then press the foil down. The goal for students was to make their lines stand out from the background and use a variety of lines to create interest in their artwork. To help the lines stand out more, students only colored the shapes in between the lines with sharpie markers. The lines stayed silver like the foil and stand out from the colorful background. The art room is an exciting place for students to come and learn. There are a variety materials for us to use in the art room to create many different types of artwork and sometimes it can get a little messy in here when we are being creative. If you are worried about your child getting stains on their clothes, please send an art shirt or smock to school for them to keep in their locker and wear on their art days. If you don't know when your child has art class, you can look below:
This year we are learning about the Elements and Principles of Art. For our first project, students in first through sixth grade created a sketchbook to use throughout the year. We will use these sketchbooks to write and draw about all of the Elements and Principles of Art and then we will create bigger projects to culminate our lessons. Students with their sketchbooksBEE YOUR BEST!!!Students are expected to follow the classroom and school rules at all times when they are in art class. We are happy to have a Positive Behavior Program here at Switzer this year and students are doing great using the 3 B's in the art room- Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Your Best/Safe. I love handing out tickets to students who are showing me the 3 B's in the art room! Keep checking back at this website to view some of our cool projects and happenings of the art room.
Students were greeted by this awesome mural when they came back to school this year. At the end of the 2013-2014 school year, all of the K-5 students created a monochromatic self-portrait. Each grade level could only use tints and shades of one color to complete their portrait. Students in kindergarten used red, first graders used orange, second graders were yellow, third graders used green, fourth graders were blue, and sixth graders used purple. The end result was this beautiful rainbow of self portraits.
