It's that time of year again for our awesome "Art to Remember" fundraiser where you can purchase special keepsakes featuring your child's artwork. All the proceeds go directly to Switzer Students' art education by allowing me to purchase special art supplies for the art room such as clay, glaze, specialty paints, markers, colored pencils and much, much more! Last years fundraiser was a great success and allowed me to get two awesome Bulletin Boards for displaying art work that are now at the front of the school. Order forms will be coming home soon. To see some of the special keepsakes that can be purchased or to learn more about "Art to Remember", you can visit their website HERE. The Arts and Idols Scholarship Gala is March 5th, right around the corner. Singers representing all of our 4 high schools plus the IB program will be competing for the top scholarship prizes that evening. Please consider attending and cheering on these students. For those who have never been to the event, it is an evening to raise funds to provide scholarships for graduating UCS seniors. Each year, approximately 30 students are chosen district wide to receive these awards. The singing contestants will entertain the audience as they compete for scholarship prizes as well. The Mallow Jazz band will perform during the pre-dinner appetizers. Beautiful artwork created by UCS art teachers and students will be auctioned in both live and silent format throughout the evening. Our own Switzer Students from First and Second Grade helped me create two amazing artworks that will be up for auction on this night. (See pictures below) It is a great evening of raising funds to benefit the students of UCS academically, musically, and artistically. Please see the attached flyer and we look forward to seeing you there! OUr Artwork created for ARTS AND IDOLS:This artwork was created with the fingerprints of every student in the first grade at Switzer after talking about our LOVE of art and how we can express Love through making artwork. Here is a painting of colorful circles created by the second graders. Each student got to paint several circles carefully deciding which colors would show up best on other colors. When they were finished I added more details with lines and dots to enhance the circles.
The sixth graders created these cool drawings by looking at a still life made from styrofoam forms like spheres, cones and cubes. We first sketched out all of the forms with a pencil, then we used a black conte crayon to do some shading to show value in our artwork. The last step was to fill in the negative space/background with chalk pastels. THE ACTUAL STILL LIFE: SIXTH GRADE INTERPRETATIONS:
The fourth graders focused on using warm and cool analogous colors to create these amazing Heart designs. We first drew a heart on our paper and then we used a ruler to divide up our paper into smaller shapes. The last step was to blend colors with oil pastels inside each shape. Inside the heart had to be colored with warm colors and the background was filled in with cool colors.
Our two goals for this project were to show texture and to show color. We did that by creating an embossed metal heart as our point of interest surrounded by a color wheel created by cut up paint chips. Both parts show lots of texture in our artwork.
In the month of November, the sixth graders had the opportunity to show their personal creativity for a poster contest. A local Lions Club brought to our attention a poster contest in which the students could express their views in imagery on Peace, Love, and Understanding. The winner, Jacob, was chosen by the Lions club and was honored at a special dinner. Below is a picture of Jacob with his poster at the dinner and also some of the other students' entries into the contest. Great Job Sixth Graders!!
The kindergartners did an awesome job creating POP ART just like artist ANDY WARHOL using bright colors, an everyday object and repetition. We painted 6 squares with different bright colors and printed our hands on top of each square. Then we cut out 6 different colored hearts from another painted paper and glued them on top of our hands.
