The first graders created these cool fish out of clay to show different textures. We used lots of different tools like popsicle sticks and stylus tools to make scales, stripes, and spots. After the fish were bisque fired in the kiln, we painted them and added a handle with beads.

The first graders created these flowers after learning about artist Georgia O'Keefe. They drew organic shapes and repeated those shapes to take up the whole space of their papers. The first graders then colored the flowers in a pattern. A fun time was had by everyone at the annual Switzer Art Show, Basket Raffle, and Ice Cream Social. Students and their families could enjoy both 2-D & 3-D works of art created by every class at Switzer as well as participate in art activities for the night. There was even a chance for families to purchase a collaborative artwork made by each grade level during a silent art auction. Our theme for this year was "The Elements of Art" and students showed off their projects that centered around lines, shapes, color, space, form, and texture. Eisenhower High School art students were on hand for the evening to help everyone with fun art activities such as a collaborative weaving, a paint strip bookmark activity, a "selfie" drawing station, and a face painting station. There was also a silly art photo booth spot where students could grab a fun artsy prop and get their picture taken. Here are a few glimpses of the night: Congratulations to all of the Switzer Students who have pieces of art in the annual UCS Fine Arts Festival! Here a few pictures of students who made it to the art show to share their art with their families. It was great to see all of those smiling faces! The show is still open every night the rest of this week from 5-8pm. The annual UCS Fine Arts Festival is starting tonight (April 20th) !! If you would like to view some amazing works of art come out to Ewell Elementary school and see artworks from Kindergarteners through 12th graders. Every school in UCS is represented. The community is welcome even if you don't have a student in the show. Below is more information and pictures of our Switzer Elementary Displays.
It's that time of year again for our awesome "Art to Remember" fundraiser where you can purchase special keepsakes featuring your child's artwork. All the proceeds go directly to Switzer Students' art education by allowing me to purchase special art supplies for the art room such as clay, glaze, specialty paints, markers, colored pencils and much, much more! Last years fundraiser was a great success and allowed me to get two awesome Bulletin Boards for displaying art work that are now at the front of the school. Order forms will be coming home soon. To see some of the special keepsakes that can be purchased or to learn more about "Art to Remember", you can visit their website HERE. Below you can see some of the amazing artwork that students have created for "Art to Remember." Singers representing all of our 4 high schools plus the IB program will be competing for the top scholarship prizes that evening. Please consider attending and cheering on these students. For those who have never been to the event, it is an evening to raise funds to provide scholarships for graduating UCS seniors. Each year, approximately 30 students are chosen district wide to receive these awards. The singing contestants will entertain the audience as they compete for scholarship prizes as well. The Mallow Jazz band will perform during the pre-dinner appetizers. Beautiful artwork created by UCS art teachers and students will be auctioned in both live and silent format throughout the evening. Our own Switzer Students from First and Second Grade helped me create two amazing artworks that will be up for auction on this night. (See pictures below) It is a great evening of raising funds to benefit the students of UCS academically, musically, and artistically. Please see the attached flyer and we look forward to seeing you there! OUr Artwork created for ARTS AND IDOLS:This artwork was created with the fingerprints of every student in the first grade at Switzer after talking about our LOVE of art and how we can express Love through making artwork. Here is a painting of colorful circles created by the second graders. Each student got to paint several circles carefully deciding which colors would show up best on other colors. When they were finished I added more details with lines and dots to enhance the circles.
Students focused on using geometric shapes when they created these cool stenciled christmas trees. First graders created theirs on white paper with the complimentary colors of red and green. The second graders used crayola color sticks on black construction paper. We used a triangle shape stencil to cover our background while we used circles, spirals, spirals and dots to create the tree. A rectangle stem and frame line were added with markers.
This year in the month of December, Switzer students had the opportunity to come back to school one night for lots of fun activities run by Switzer teachers and Eisenhower High School student helpers. In the Art room students could create a fun snowman ornament using a popsicle stick, paper, felt, markers and sequins. Students could also color a big mural in the bypass hallway and get their face painted by Eisenhower art students. There were even more crafts and activities going on all around the school. We all had a great time interacting with each other after school hours!
The first graders created these interesting shape designs by cutting out circles, squares, and triangles in three different colors. After they glued the shapes to their papers, they used matching markers to outline the shapes with repeating lines.
For the first week, students in first grade learned about primary and secondary colors. Then we mixed the secondary colors of orange and green with paint right on our papers. The second week first graders cut up their orange and green papers to create a pumpkin and then added black and white paper to create a face on their pumpkin. The faces on the pumpkins show some kind of emotion like happiness or anger.
